Equipment and systems that make up a parabolic trough concentrator's thermosolar plant

Español | English

A thermoelectric solar power plant is more like a conventional thermal plant than a photovoltaic plant, for example.  A thermosolar plant has two clearly differentiated parts:

  • The set of specific systems used for capturing radiation and converting it into heat energy.

    • Solar field. It is the set of elements that capture the solar direct radiation (DNI, Direct Normal Irradiation) and make the temperature rise in the heat transfer fluid flowing through parabolic trough concentrators. It occupies most of the surface of the plant and are the key element of capture.
    • Thermal heat transfer fluid system, or HTF system. It is a complex system, composed in turn of several subsystems (pumping, storage system, expansion, system of purification, anti-freezing, recirculation, tracing system, etc.)
  • The set of conventional systems that converts thermal energy into electrical energy, happening before for a mechanical energy.

    • Train of steam generation
    • Water-steam cycle
    • Auxiliary systems (BOP, Balance of Plant), among which is the main cooling system, auxiliary cooling system, fire system, water treatment plant, effluent treatment plant, reagent dosing system, satellite gas station, etc.
    • Steam turbine
    • Generator
    • High voltage systems
